Half Day Evita Perón tour

Eva Peron is a symbol of the worldwide struggle of women against patriarchal oppression. In Argentina however, her figure is rather controversial: loved by the working class, who she generously aided during her brief but intense political career, and hated by the wealthier classes, with whom she had an ardent dispute.

Following Eva’s footsteps, the tour will start in Retiro at the Railway Station, where a very young Eva Peron arrived dreaming to become a famous actress. Then, we will visit Plaza de Mayo, where you can admire the famous balcony from where, already married to General Peron, she delivered her most famous speeches, addressed to the Argentinian workers who utterly loved because of the unprecedented representation she and Peron had given to them. See the Presidential Palace and the fountains where the workers protested in 1955, demanding the release of Juan Domingo Peron.

Next, visit the former building of the Eva Peron Foundation, an institution created by Evita to promote social assistance all over the country. Once in Recoleta, you will visit the Basílica de Nuestra Senora del Pilar, where Eva and Peron were married. After the visit, walk across the Recoleta Cemetery, an enormous labyrinth of splendid funeral monuments, and a traditional stronghold of Argentine aristocracy, where you will witness Evita’s posthumous victory over the people who had unceasingly fought her when she was alive.

The tour ends in Palermo, where you will visit the Evita Museum, inaugurated for the 50th anniversary of her death. Enjoy a delicious lunch in this beautiful setting.

After the museum visit, you will go back to your hotel for a free afternoon.

It is a rocky headland that juts almost a kilometer into the sea forming natural bays on both sides with white sandy beaches. Its landmark is the 32 meter high lighthouse built in 1877. José Ignacio owes its name to one of the first settlers in the area during Spanish colonial times and today it is considered to be one of the best fishing spots either from the shore or from a boat in the ocean. Yet some hundred years ago the area was famous for some maritime tragedies that took place on the rocky crags.
