Meet on the steps of the Robert Gray Memorial, outside the Taj Hotel in Cape Town to enjoy a walking tour in Cape Town (weather/conditions permitting).

  • Cape Town played a pivotal role in Mandela’s journey from prisoner to president.
  • The 2 ½ hour walking tour covers approximately 2km of the historic and cultural heart of Cape Town and brings to life the journey Mandela took from his conviction in 1964 at the Rivonia Trial until his current status as a global icon of bravery and freedom.
  • Highlight of the walk include: the Mandela Rhodes Building where we set the scene and give a chronological overview of Mandela’s life; Greenmarket Square to understand the role played by religious groupings in “struggle”.

The City Hall for its iconic moment of 11th Feb 1990.  We take in Parliament and Tuynhuis: the setting for much political intrigue, debate and negotiation that were going on behind the scenes and which finally led to our first democratically-led president taking his seat in the very institution that had previously institutionalized apartheid.

You will be collected at your hotel by your driver-guide for a Private Full Day Cape Peninsula Tour.

  • Travel at a pace that allows you to explore the beauty of the Cape Peninsula.
  • Depart for the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve along one of South Africa’s most scenic routes, passing Hout Bay.
  • Enjoy a cruise to Seal Island, to view seals and sea birds at Duiker Island (weather permitting).
  • During summer, several thousand Cape Fur Seals – along with the rare Black Cormorant – lollop leisurely among the kelp beds.
  • Enjoy a Cape Town Sidecar adventure you will be collected at Hout Bay after your Seal Island cruise and taken along the beautiful Chapman’s Peak Drive (conditions permitting), you will stop for pictures on route. You will then meet up with your guide and driver for your transfer onto Cape Point.
  • Continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.
  • The scenery en route to Cape Point, at the South Western tip of the reserve, is particularly lovely in spring when wildflowers carpet the landscape.
  • The new lighthouse – the most powerful in the world – beams an electric light of 19 million candle power across the ocean.
  • Ascend to the top of by The Flying Dutchman funicular.
  • Visit the penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
  • Then drive through the historic naval base town of Simon’s Town.

Return to your hotel and spend the balance of the day at leisure.

You will be met at your hotel by your driver-guide for your tour of Robben Island accompanied by Christo Brand (this is not a private tour).

Join Christo Brand on a tour of Robben Island. Christo will meet your guests at Jetty One in front of the Table Bay Hotel for an introduction and explanation of what that building was used for.

He will then accompany your guests on the standard, public ferry trip.

The tour route includes the graveyard of people who died from leprosy, the Lime Quarry, Robert Sobukwe’s house, the Bluestone quarry, the army and navy bunkers and the Maximum Security Prison where thousands of South Africa’s freedom fighters were incarcerated for years. The tour culminates with a viewing of Nelson Mandela’s cell.

Chisto Brand former prison guard who was one of several that were responsible for guarding Nelson Mandela. He came to Robben Island, where Mandela was held, in 1978 when he was 18 years old. He was then transferred along with Mandela to Pollsmoor Prison. He and Mandela developed a friendship over the course of many years. This friendship was based on a mutual respect and trust for each other. He is the author of the book, Mandela: My Prisoner, My Friend (2014). The book was written on the insistence of Nelson Mandela who passed away shortly before it was released.

  • Get swept away by the overwhelming beauty of rolling vineyards and perfect blue sky.
  • Start off with a visit to Paarl and the spectacular Paarl Valley.
  • Here you will enjoy a wine tasting and cellar tour at one of the local estates.
  • The tour continues north-west to the beautiful village of Franschhoek

Enjoy an Estate Wine Drive at Waterford Wine Estate

  • Board the safari type game-viewing vehicle and explore the 120 hectare property.
  • This two hour trip takes you on a drive through the vineyards, with wine tastings taking place on the soil where the grapes are grown.
  • Waterford Estate intends to play a small role in preserving the Cape Floral Kingdom by leaving sections of the property untouched, while showing guests some of the Cape’s natural beauty.

Final wine tasting ends in Stellenbosch the second oldest town in South Africa.

On completion of your Winelands Tour you will be transferred to your hotel in the Winelands

  • Whale season is usually June to November (there are cruises departing in December, but there is a low possibility for sightings).

Enjoy a 1 hour Elephant Interaction at the Knysna Elephant Park.

  • Join the southern-most elephants in the world at Knysna Elephant Park.
  • Here the resident family of African elephants and world-class guides will unravel the sad and mystical story of the Knysna forest elephants.

Upon arrival at OR Tambo (JNB) International Airport you will be met by your driver-guide for your Private Half Day Soweto Tour.

Soweto, a sprawling metropolis of more than 3.5 million people on the outskirts of Johannesburg, is a multi-cultural composite of South Africa today. Peek into the past – hostels, Freedom Square, the struggle for liberty. Stand on the only road in the world which carries the honour of two recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Inside Soweto, you will visit the Hector Pieterson Museum, and discover the cause of the tragic riots which led to his death. Pass Mandela House, and enjoy some free time to visit this fascinating little museum.

The journey continues to Regina Mundi Church, site of many secret underground meetings of the then banned political parties.

Finally you will be taken past the largest stadium in Africa, Soccer City, host of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final. This magnificent stadium is now nicknamed ‘The Calabash’ for its resemblance to the African Pot.

Afternoon game drive which may continue into the early evening in order to view the nocturnal animals as well.

Note: Guests will have 1 private vehicle so children 5 years old are allowed on game drives, the second vehicle will not be private this will be shared with other guests staying at the lodge
